NDx specializes in several key testing areas
The best way to prevent a life-threatening condition is through early detection, managing risk factors and appropriate treatment. With our modern capabilities, we can pinpoint neurologic problems early- before it’s too late to make a difference. Our diagnostic facilities are available both with and without consultation.
Electroencephalogram (EEG) Testing
This painless test can show normal and abnormal brain activity, highlighting patterns that suggest cognitive impairment (encephalopathy) or the possibility of seizures. In addition to our in-office testing, we offer overnight digital EEG services. The patient will leave wearing a light-weight monitor, collecting information as they go about their day.
What to Expect
The EEG is a painless procedure.
22 small metal disks (electrodes) are pasted to the patient’s scalp.
The patient may be asked to hyperventilate (breathing through the mouth deeper and faster than normal).
A strobe light, flashing at different speeds may be shown to the patient for a brief time.
Average Times:
Overnight study - 1.5 hours of in-office set up time.
How to Prepare
1. Have clean dry hair with no oil, lotions or hair spray.
2. No hair extensions, braids, or hair clips of any kind.
3. Eat a meal or snack before you come in.
4. No caffeine 24 hours prior to test (water, juice, or milk only)
5.Take medications as normal.
6. Sleep deprivation – the day before the procedure, stay awake until Midnight, then awake at 5:00am. Stay awake until the test is started.
7. Do not wear make up the day of testing.
8. Do not wear perfumes, colognes, or body sprays
Carotid Ultrasound (CUS) and Transcranial Doppler (TCD)
Our high resolution ultrasound is an excellent non-invasive tool for looking at blood flow to the brain. And with the Transcranial Doppler, we can examine the circulation deep in the brain, helping to detect patients at risk for stroke.
What to Expect
For Caratid Ultrasound (CUS):
This is an ultrasonic procedure that can image internal structures.
The technologist will place a probe on the side of your neck and move it around.
This test is painless.
Average Time: 30 minutes
For Transcranial Doppler (TCD):
The technologist will place a probe on the side of your head.
This will allow the doctor to look at different blood vessels in your brain.
This test is painless.
Average Time: 30 minutes
How to Prepare
For Carotid Ultrasound (CUS):
Do NOT wear the following BEFORE and DURING test:
1. High-collared shirts
2. Turtlenecks
3. Make-up
4. Perfumes, colognes, or body sprays
For Transcranial Doppler (TCD):
Do NOT wear the following BEFORE and DURING test:
1. Contact lenses
2. Make-up
3. Perfumes, colognes, or body sprays
EMG & Neuromuscular Medicine
Electromyography (EMG) gives essential information about health and function of a patient’s nerve and muscles. The tests are especially useful in evaluating weakness or tingling and to help diagnose problems like carpal tunnel syndrome and neck and back pain.
What to Expect
EMG testing consists of two parts. During nerve conduction small shocks are used to measure the function of nerves in the arms or legs. The doctor will then use a tiny needle check muscle function. Mild discomfort is common; you should not have any lasting effects.
Average Time: 45 - 60 minutes
How to Prepare
Do NOT wear the following BEFORE test:
1. Lotions or oils of any kind on arms or legs
2. Perfumes, colognes, or body sprays
Infusion Therapy
Neurology Diagnostics has on on-site infusion suite for treatment of MS, dementia and other disorders. Some of our research protocols include intravenous therapies. An accredited infusion nurse monitors the facility in partnership with McKesson.
What to Expect
All meds precertified. A caring nurse will attend to you in a comfortable environment.
How to Prepare
In most cases no specific preparation is necessary.
